We are Hinckley

I'm starting a community photo project to celebrate my hometown and build my skills along the way

What the Project Is About

We Are Hinckley is a portrait & landscape project celebrating the people and places that make Hinckley what it is.  The aim is to create a relaxed, community‑focused visual snapshot of the town — people photographed in the real environments that matter to them.

Over a few months, this will build into a small virtual exhibition showing the character, variety, and personality of Hinckley through the people who live and work here.  Alongside celebrating the community, this project also gives me a chance to develop my environmental lighting skills in a fun, low‑pressure way.

Each portrait is honest, simple, and shot in the person’s own space — workplaces, hobbies, community spots, or personal corners — keeping everything natural and authentic.  I also plan to capture events and landscapes in the town to build into the project

In short: this project is about Hinckley - Real people, real places, and a growing collection of portraits and landscape that show what makes this town special.

Getting involved in shoots

Initially, I'm looking for a few local people and businesses to support me in shoots to help build the project. Taking part is easy, Here’s how it works:

  • - A relaxed 20–30 minute shoot in your environment

  • - 1–2 finished digital portraits

  • - A short bio written from the conversation

  • - Your portrait and bio added to the 'We Are Hinckley' project page

  • - You can use the images personally or professionally

  • - You simply volunteer, agree to be photographed, and - we pick a time that suits you.

This project grows one portrait at a time, and each person helps build a positive, authentic picture of Hinckley’s community

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

If you’d like to be part of the project, email me via my website contact page or message me on social media. That’s it — we’ll pick a time that suits you.

Below are some early test‑shoot self‑portraits to give you a flavour of the style.

Outdoor Portrait with dynamic lighting

The lighting is choosen to focus on the person while keeping detail in the background.

Example Exhibition Post

The 1st 'We are Hinckley' Portrait is Emma Hall who I recently worked with and she fits the feel of the project perfectly, being from Hinckley and working here in the travel industry for a large part of the last 26 years.

Emma Hall

Emma lives and works in Hinckley. She’s one of those people who makes you feel welcome within seconds — warm, easy to talk to,  and grounded in the community she’s grown up in.Now raising her twin daughters in Leicestershire with her husband and their dog Daisy, Emma brings a calm, friendly presence wherever she goes. She’s spent more than 26 years working in travel, building tailor‑made trips shaped around who people are and what they genuinely need — simple, personal, and without any fuss. For her portrait, we kept things simple and natural. A soft, clean setup in her own environment, letting her settle into a pose that felt like her. No pressure — just Emma being Emma. She’s a lifelong Hinckley local with a global outlook, and her portrait is a perfect start to the We Are Hinckley project.
